As we engage with the topic of artificial intelligence (AI) in collegial conversations, we may be encouraged and excited to implement AI into our learning design and teaching contexts. The QM rubric reminds us that, when we implement AI as a tool, we need to prioritize alignment to learning objectives. This discussion begins with the QM concept of alignment and then overlays the lens of Universal Design for Learning. How can we extend our understanding of alignment to embrace our pedagogical values?
In this session we will discuss how we have aligned our online course design strategy with the Middle State's 9 Hallmarks of Quality and the Quality Matters Rubric and how bringing on a QM trained instructional designer has had impact on course design and faculty development. ACCESS struggled to provide safe and effective labs for students in fully online courses. No matter how simple the equipment list, students had difficulty finding resources, time, space, and support for hands-on labs. Faced with issues of equity, ACCESS began developing its own online labs. In this session, we will:
• Discuss factors of equity in hands-on labs
• Analyze data on the impact of online labs
• Outline the development process for online labs, including design choices
In 2021, IvyOnline and College assessment collaborated to conduct a pilot of changes to our design template at Ivy Tech Community College. Come learn how we approached the evolution of the design template through A/B testing and a usability focus.
